There is always a lot written on wedding blogs about the latest ‘trends’ and while I love the new and original ideas that couples constantly come up with I’m pretty anti the whole idea that something you chose would be seen as a current fashion statement rather than a reflection of the happy couple’s taste. I totally believe your wedding day should be a celebration of who you are and your own personal style. As Coco Chanel said ‘Fashion fades, only style stays the same’ The last thing you want to do is look back at your wedding photographs in 10 years and feel they have dated, beautiful, stylish details never look out of place.
So this week I’m looking at cakes, an intrinsic part of any wedding but a blank canvas in terms of style and creativity, and I’m particularly inspired by the works of art that are hand-painted wedding cakes. I absolutely love this idea particularly as each cake is by its nature totally unique and you can create any look from country chic to cutting edge geometric and everything in between. I’m an avid cake maker and eater and I am totally in awe of the artists behind these incredible creations. From a bride and groom’s point of view the sky’s the limit in terms of what a talented decorator can create for your big day so let your imagination run wild.
I love the idea of a handwritten message on your cake, be it a favourite poem, your vows or just but significant places, phrases or values you can make it ultra personal and meaningful, not to mention beautiful.
Theses hand-painted floral cakes are works of pure artistry and can echo your theme, centrepieces, invitations or whatever your hearts desire, even better they are made by MurrayMe (www.murrayme.co.uk) right here in sunny Sussex.
These geometric designs are perfect for understated chic or go the total opposite direction and chose a paint-spattered Jackson Pollock cake or a graffiti finish.
These are just a few of my favourites so please take a look at our pinterest board for even more inspiration.
