David came to me having seen some of my short stop motion films on my sister site bubbleandbean.com. He’s a talented close up magician who needed to update the imagery on his site. He loved the idea of incorporating stop motion and 100% trusted me to run with what was quite a loose brief. So I came along to an intimate dinner party where David was performing and took a series of reportage images which capture the pure amazement of the guests as he impressed them with his huge array of tricks. Prior to that I had spent two hours with David breaking each trick down and putting together the stop motion.
Needless to say I LOVED it, it was seriously cool having unrestricted behind-the-scenes access to such talent. I was scrutinizing and photographing his every move and I expected that I’d have to fake a few shots for the stop motion, but no, he’s a true pro and even my camera didn’t catch him out! David isn’t your average showman, he’s charming in a quietly confident way, a smile the size of the Mersey Tunnel and completely blew the socks of the guests. The showreel ticked all his boxes and I loved applying a bit of my Bubble & Bean style to my SMP Weddings work. Once the shoot was over I cut the reportage images and the stop motion photography together to music in a short film, this is now shown to his potential clients to give them a really clear idea of what to expect when they book him.
